Gnoma Garna V1.9-2.2.1 Changelogs

Gnoma Garna’s full version is here! And along with it, several major updates seen by playtesters are released to the public, all at once! Originally, I had a demo version with reduced content to play in-browser, and a full version for $3, but I’m just a little too young for a PayPal. So, kinda defeated the purpose of keeping these updates. Oh well, at least you can all try it!

Gnoma Garna V1.9 has just released! (8/3/2024)

Additions 

-Added a new creature; The whale! This creature can shoot streams of water out of its back, which blast anything it hits upwards.

-Added a new tile; The metal crate! Its just a heavier crate. Its also a metal object, so magnets pull it harder.

-Added a new tile; The thin lilypad! This lilypad sinks easier.

Changes

-Buffed the match! Now, you can be set on fire. This increases your horizontal speed to 1.5x the normal speed while on fire!

-The pufferfish and jellyfish are now affected by things like the ice and stopwatch abilities. The latter can now also be targeted by certain creatures.

Fixes

-Fixed an issue introduced in 1.8 where on occasion, there would be more lilies needed to complete the round than there were on the map, softlocking the player.

-Fixed a long standing issue where collecting two lilies in one frame would only count one of them as collected, softlocking the player.

Gnoma Garna V2.0 has just released! (8/20/2024)

Additions 

-Added a TON of new structure presets for more generation variation! 

-New "Workshop Mode" toggle in the main menu. This replaces infinite abilities, and is essentially a revamped version of it. In workshop mode, you have infinite abilities, and can reroll abilities with a button below them. In workshop mode you cannot die, and instead are brought back to the spawn platform on death. Collecting all the flowers in workshop mode will not award a win or start a new run, so you need to press R to start a new run in workshop mode. More coming to workshop mode in future updates!

-Added a new tile; Unstable concrete! This concrete variation is able to to sway a little, but cannot tip over or move.

-Added a few particles;

   -Dust particles when landing as the metal

   -Water particles on the ice ability for it melting

   -Feather particles on the duck's back when it pecks

   -Dust particles for the moyai when walking

   -Water particles when any object or entity enters the water

Changes

-Changed the lily ability to the sailboat ability. Functionally very similar, with minor changes to stability and such, and a new sprite.

-Buffed the metal ability, when landing a jump, cause a small explosive force. This does not affect the player. The length of the ability has also been increased; 1.5s -> 3s. You can no longer use a metal ability while metal.

-The match now has much lower friction, allowing it to slide to flowers or wooden structures easier.

-Improved the AI of the moyai. They also now aim their attacks directly at their target, instead of generally at them.

-Several changes to the main menu;

   -The main menu now follows the center of the screen at different aspect ratios.

   -Opening adv. options now shifts the main menu to the side to better fit everything on screen.

   -Fixed a long standing issue where settings wouldn't be properly saved and displayed when returning to the main menu!

   -When returning to the main menu, you can continue a run, as long as you don't change any settings, functioning like a pause button.

-Changed a few textures;

   -Rain cloud's rain

   -Chicken's egg

   -Ice ability

Fixes

-In game UI now follows the center the screen at different aspect ratios.

Gnoma Garna V2.0.1 has just released! (8/21/24)

-Giant creatures now become enraged after ~1 minute.

-Added a button to the main menu which restores settings to default.

-In workshop mode, the button that randomizes an ability now cycles the same way it does in the main menu.

-The sailboat is no longer overly buoyant.

-Fixed an issue where moyai would sometimes go braindead after shooting.

-Kracken now uses the sailboat and not the lilypad ability.

-Fixed an issue where when returning to the main menu, where the text for the giant creatures toggle wouldn't update until it was changed again.

Gnoma Garna V2.0.2 has just released! (8/21/24)

-Fixed an issue introduced in V2.0.1 where multiple main menu options literally stopped existing. 

-Ability slots now have an indicator for how many uses you have left. 

-Ladders now have an adjusted placement position on use, and are now centered on the player, and spawn slightly below them, making them more reliable when falling.

Additions 

-Added the volume slider to the main menu. 

-Added several new particles; 

   -Petal particles when collecting a lily flower. 

   -The player now also has splash particles when falling in water. 

   -Egg shell particles when a player's or chicken's egg explode. 

   -Dust particles when using the ladder, sailboat, and raincloud abilities. 

   -Anchor has dust particles when hitting a tile, or water particles when hitting water.

Changes 

-Changed workshop mode ability cycle buttons to have a button for cycling forwards and backwards. 

-When a giant creature spawns, it now reduces the map size by a third of the current size, rather than by half. 

-Complexity option in the main menu no longer displays "Default", "Maximum", or "Minimum" at 5, 20, and 1 complexity respectively. This is due to the addition of the reset settings to default button, and the fact that it caused some adv. settings to be shifted up to make room for the text. 

-Cracked concrete now replaces 1% of concrete instead of 10%. 

-The sailboat is now much more stable, but has slightly reduced buoyancy. 

-Changed ladder ability icon. 

-Made the ability counter brighter. 

-Chickens no longer lay their eggs in unison, and have a random 5-6 second range to lay eggs from a flat 6 second range.

-Portal ability now works in workshop mode

Gnoma Garna V2.2 has just released! (9/23/2024) Main Menu Revamp 

-New transition into the game from the main menu! This does not play when continuing a run. You can also skip it by holding LShift when pressing start. 

-Changed "Adv. Options" into "Game Options" 

-Added another section of options, "Settings" 

-Split the giant creatures button into a button for each giant creature. 

-Creature toggle has been reworked, and now has the options none, less, some, extra, and tons. This is set to some by default. 

-Music volume added under settings. 

-Debug mode is no longer normally accessible. Though, by pressing TAB, you can still access it if you really want to. 

-Replaced complexity with 5 difficulty options; tutorial, easy, normal, hard, and extreme. This is set to tutorial by default. Difficulty affects structure count, how spread apart they are, and what kinds of structures can and cannot spawn. 

-Added an option for escalating difficulty under game options. This can be set to off, slow, medium, or fast, and is medium by default. These options make the map size slowly increase as you get a higher winstreak. 

-Added an option under settings to show FPS. 

Additions 

-Added a new giant creature, the King Crab! This behemoth will follow you around in the background, and can be jumped on like a jump-thru platform. It will attack anything, even other giant creatures! 

-Added the Toad! This elusive creature leaps from structure to structure, attacking anything it finds! When hit, you are flung away, and covered in saliva which lowers your jump height for 3 seconds. 

-Added the Squid! This creature floats in water, shooting ink at any passersby! When hit, your abilities are covered in ink for 3 seconds, hiding what you have selected. 

-Added music! 

-4 new structure presets, bringing the total to 24! Some of these will only generate on harder difficulties, and some wont generate on harder difficulties. Same rule applies to the existing ones.

-Added a small flower icon next to the flower count to show what it means. 

-Gave some extra variation to existing structure presets. 

-Stopwatch zero gravity now also affects abilities. 

-Magnet pull now also affects abilities. 

-Upon starting a new run, there is a 0.5s grace period where you cannot use abilities. No more using abilities when continuing! 

-Small, transparent icons on the top right of the screen will display what your settings are while playing. 

-Added 5 more sounds; 

   -King Krab snap claw 

   -Toad tongue extend 

   -Toad chew/blast 

   -Squid shoot 

   -Squid ink land 

Changes 

-Slightly altered certain structure presets to make them fall over less upon spawning in and to fix instances where concrete would appear over the water. 

-Increased floating stability of the boat, and also increased its friction by 46.15%. 

-Moyai beams no longer hit foreground objects like support beams. 

-Jellyfish spawn rate decreased slightly. 

-Win/lose text is now displayed for twice as long, and is transparent. Its position on the screen is also higher. 

-Altered the sprite of the ability icons for the tornado and egg. 

-The Leviathan now better telegraphs their charge. 

Fixes 

-Fixed an issue where the match would sometimes remain on its final frame and still light things on fire forever, instead of going away. 

-Fixed an issue where eggs and chicken eggs wouldn't explode until on screen. 

-Fixed an issue where burning flowers with the match would not play the sound for collecting a flower. 

-Fixed a long standing issue where creatures would flash on screen for a moment in all possible spawn positions when loading the map. 

-Fixed a small visual issue where item pickups containing a stopwatch, cloud, or match all had no corners on their box.

Gnoma Garna V2.2.1 has just released! (9/26/2024)

Additions

-King Krab can now become enraged!

-If the player gets too far outside the map, numbers will show up and show just how far gone you are.

-Added a desktop icon.

-Made the demo version.

Changes

-Squid ink now lingers for a short time after landing.

Fixes

-Fixed an issue where the following options did not visually save when returning to the main menu; show FPS, Leviathan chance, Kracken chance, King Krab chance.

-Fixed an issue where if you somehow got a flower out of the map with a super strong explosive force, it would basically be impossible to collect. Now, flowers are collected if too far out from the map. Do not fret! The player can still survive out there.

-Fixed an issue where ability pickups could not contain the metal, rain cloud, or match abilities.
